Still SO exhaustedly (is that a word?) delirious...
brief rundown:
4:00 pm yesterday (scheduled time... started about an hour late)... got to Macy's with 1200 of my closest friends to see a special Prince in-store for the launch of his new perfume 3121. Macy's was decked out to celebrate the launch... purple and gold awesomeness. We were on the left-hand side of the stage about 3 feet from the stage... not half bad. Horn section started with When the Saints Go Marching In... SWEEEET. Then Prince & Sheila E. played 3121... and my highlight of that set was probably A Love Bizarre. They played for about an hour... then we roamed over to The Local, got a little bit of food and headed to the Target center.
Target Center show started late as well... so we started joking that it'd probably be 10:00 am before the First Avenue show kicked off. As usual, Target Center acoustics were terrible--not news to anyone who's ever seen a show there. I think it started about an hour, maybe hour and a half late... wasn't really paying attention, just marveling at how awesome it was to be seeing Prince from the FOURTH ROW!!! Absolute highlights for the show: Sometimes it Snows in April, Little Red Corvette, Play That Funky Music (haha... John Goodman singing along and sweating profusely was my main enjoyment out of that one), and If I Was Your Girlfriend. He opened the show w/ Purple Rain (and despite the fact that some people think that song is over-hyped, it felt like the perfect way to open the show) and closed w/ Glamorous Life. Awesome awesome awesome all around.
And lastly... First Avenue. It was somewhere between 2:30am and 3:00am when the show started but it was spectacular. We grabbed another bite to eat between shows so we were further towards the back, but the claustrophobia factor was a little less there so it was ok. We couldn't see all that well but the highlight for me was definitely Got A Broken Heart Again. He only repeated Satisfied between Target Center and First Ave, which was also pretty crazy. Crowd size was similar to Macy's but probably slightly larger and definitely more packed... It was almost 4:00 am when we headed back to our cars... so after leaving at 2:00 pm for the Macy's show to get in line, my Prince-filled day officially ended when I got home at almost 5:00 am... a 15 hour long day.
It was easily one of the most fabulous musical days of my life. Prince at First Avenue? I can die a happy girl now.
